My very last day in the office

It’s quite strange to have an extra evening at the office just to hand over my previous tasks to my successor. I cannot say I wasn’t relieved: I was working for the student unions of ELTE for a total of nine years and it was enough. From now on, GergÅ‘ Varga is responsible for the affairs of ELTE Online. Since I took care of them since the foundation of the magazine, it’s nice to feel that I never have to deal with excentric and exalted authors and editor wannabes any more. From now on, it’s not me who has to try to squish out perfectly public information from the university. Good luck and have fun, that was the last thing I told him. I really did everything I could for making a quality magazine — all he has to do is to keep it moving. Last week at the general assembly of the student union officially thanked me for my work, I was also given some presents — I can tell you, it’s very nice leaving like that.

My last place didn’t even bothered to thank me for anything, they were too busy getting rid of me as soon as possible (after building the newspaper of ELTE Faculty of Sciences for 8 years). It was a side effect of some struggle for power — the fact that the ones who sacked me failed in their every single goal and were forced to leave under really ungracious circumstances certainly gives me some grim satisfaction. Gabi, the one who threw even our friendship to the air for the hope of some more power, is now a do-what-we-say-and-don’t-complain type of employee at the university; a little more than a year ago she was dreaming of having a role in the national management of the student movement.

After explaining the duties and responsibilities of the editor-in-chief, I arrived home for a magnificent surprise supper: V. invented a new recipe of chicken with curry, pineapple and coconut milk; it tasted like genuine Chinese food, which I really adore. It had nicely balanced flavors, it was also nice to look at. Also served well as cold chicken salad for lunch. Maybe I should ask for the recipe.
