Rosemary chicken

I like cooking; I started at the age of 11, when I burned a few rolls to charcoal in far too much overheated oil. Maybe I even have some inherited inclination towards cooking: my grandmother was a fabulous and very experienced (although not a professional) cook; my father loves experimenting in the kitchen, and has the largest collection of cooking utensils I have ever seen. Mum is a very special cook, because besides having the ability to make delicious food, she also works extremely fast — sometimes she seems to conjure up food out of thin air. When I got my flat, I got the habit of throwing up parties for my friends, which also turned out to be an excellent opportunity to provide something special to eat, and I even got instant and positive feedback.

When Mum moved to the States, I became curious what traditional American food is like. First Mum stated strictly that there are no such thing as American food [not taking McDonald's hamburgers into account :) ], but then once, when she came home, she brought me the USA Cookbook, with over 600 nice recipes. I use it frequently, since American food turned out to be really nice. While I am trying to try out as many new recipes as possible, there are some food which I more or less regularly make for dinner. One of them is a “rosemary-roasted chicken”: chicken roasted on butter, garlic and onion with the juice of two oranges, flavored with rosemary.

The reason I like it so much that it serves two purposes. It can be eaten warm with mashed potatoes or rice, and I can use the leftover to make chicken sandwich for V., who can take it away with her to work.

On mornings like this, I always got a thank-you-this-sandwich-is-wonderful message on my cell phone.

  • az amerikai konyha nagy átlagban biztos olyan mint maga Amerika: melting pot (ezt ők mondják) innen is egy kicsi, onnan is egy kicsi… aztán összáll egybe :)
